Scores from the first day of the new season

Welcome to the first Chairman’s report, on this first weekend of the 2024 season.

Yesterday’s planned 1s v 2s game was stymied by the bad weather in the week, so the action got underway today. The juniors started with their first practice under the leadership of Raj Nath – and the sun shone! Thanks to all the team, both the coaches, helpers and the ‘support team’, aka The Helens.

Later on at HQ the Women had their first game, losing to Hitchin but getting a lot of experience from their first ever 30-over games. The men’s XI also lost in our traditional curtain-raiser at Kempton. We bowled and fielded well to restrict them to 192 but were never in the hunt against their decent attack, and we finished on 114 all out.

Please note that annual subs are now due. Please go to the Pitchero Shop to pay as soon as possible: There is an optional donation to the Grenada Foundation – which would be gratefully received – and the chance to enter the Fantasy Cricket league too.

Next weekend things step up a notch. We have 4 friendly fixtures on Saturday and a home friendly against Hampstead on Sunday. Please get your availabilities for these games (and, looking further ahead if you can) – selection is on Tuesday evening, so you need to be ‘available’ in Pitchero by Tuesday 6pm in order to be considered for selection.

Last thing: there is a WhatsApp group which carries running updates from senior games on Saturdays and (sometimes) Sundays. If anyone would like to be added to this group, please email me and let me know.

Thanks everyone. Have a good week.
