Today we had the juniors end-of-season celebration, in which 40 young players braved the inclement weather for some outdoor games, followed by pizza and awards in the clubhouse. Thanks to Jim, Leonora and Helen Gilmour for all their work making the day a success. Thanks to everyone who came, and especial well done to all the award winners. We were delighted to have so many of the U9s there – unbeaten league champions this season.
There were two senior adult games, and the side at Belmont and Edgware got a win in before the rain, with Steve Brookes making 40* and Glayson Baptiste picking up three wickets. In the other game, at Brentham, we batted, runs for Zach Fry and Eddie Sykes, and then the heavens opened.
There is one more Sunday of friendlies – so please get your availability in for the last opportunity for action till next April.
In other news, I’m sad to have to tell you that former HQ groundsman Paul Duckett died recently. He had taken early retirement but unfortunately was diagnosed with liver cancer soon after. We send the club’s condolences to Paul’s family.
Lastly, to let you know that the Barnes Bookfest will feature Trevor McDonald talking to BBC cricket correspondent Eleanor Oldroyd on Sunday 28 September at 8pm at St Mary’s Church SW13 about cricket and his life. Tickets are £15 each but we have been offered tickets for £10 – if you are interested in this offer please contact organiser Anne Mullins on annemullins45@gmail.com.
Thanks, Bernard
