To start with the 4s, who secured promotion on Saturday. Congratulations to Dan and the team. It wasn’t completely in the style we would have wanted, after Ealing Trailfinders scored 327 in the first innings. But we put up a valiant chase, with a brilliant first wicket stand between Glayson Baptiste and Miles Dyson, and with 2 balls to spare we reached the 297, which was enough for 2 bonus points, and promotion. We remain 21 points clear and look to seal first place at the next opportunity.
Meanwhile elsewhere the 1s beat Stoke Newington, Tom Flavell making a century and James Harris 46 in our 240, and the wickets shared between Bhavic Tukrel (4-18) and Matt Harrison (5-14) as we bowled them out for 99.
The 2s got a thrilling 1 wicket win over West Harrow. They made 177 (Saqlain Shaikh 4-33) and we squeaked home with late order partnerships masterminded by Anurag Zende’s 42*.
The 3s also had a tight successful chase, beating Kenton by 2 wickets. Kenton made 203 (Karthik Shivaram 4-45) and Karthik also led the way with the bat, making 40 at the top of the order.
The 5s were the only ones on the wrong side of a tight finish. We got 153 but Brentham got them for 9 despite James Chaplin’s 5-53.
On Sunday the MDL lost to a strong Uxbridge – but a great campaign by the MDL team: bravo. The women also ended their league schedule with a close defeat to South Hampstead. Grace Yorath took 3-17 as they made 116 and we finished only 10 runs short. Meanwhile the men’s friendly side lost at Chiswick House to Red Square Lions. We racked up 218-5, built around a big first wicket stand between Henry Somper (88) and Michael Redfern (61), but they knocked them off with something to spare.
Thanks to everyone who represented the club on our best Saturday for a few weeks – and again congratulations to Dan Hayward and everyone who has played for the 4s this year. A much deserved success.
Thanks
Bernard
