Chairman's Report 22 June

Big chases by the 1s and 2s - and an MDL win

A hot weekend – and a bit of a run-fest, with wickets flat and outfields fast.

On Saturday the 1s beat Wembley, chasing their 222 for just two wickets: 50s for Tom Flavell, Eddie Sykes and Matthew Long. They stay 2nd in the table.

The 2s chased a massive 287 at HQ, on a pitch with pace and bounce that was a credit to Raj, our groundskeeper. We got home with 6 wickets down and 3 overs to spare – a brilliant chase from a start of 12-2. There were 50s for Rhys Burke and Joel Abbott, plus 40s from Jamie Price and Charlie Aarons. The 2s move back up to 3rd.

The 3s lost to Perivale Phoenicians, making 171 (Jack Stansfield 50) but they got them comfortably for three. We are now third, but level on points with Phoenicians.

The 4s were on a bye week but retain 2nd place. In the same division, the 5s lost to leaders Ealing Trailfinders. They made 194 and we were all out for 95.

The 6s lost a remarkable game, away to Kensington and Chelsea 4s at Kings House. We posted 312-4 – the highest score I can ever remember a Chiswick side posting. There was 50 to Jeremy Wellard and unbeaten 100s for both Charlie Entwistle and Saminda Fernando, who shared a 200+ stand for the 5th wicket. But sadly K&C chased it down with a brilliantly paced chase.

On Sunday the MDL side played its first game, and beat Actonians. We posted 201 (50 for Zach Fry) and bowled them out – as they tried to block for a draw – with 6 wickets for Ravi Badale. The friendly side nearly stole a win at Shepperton in a thrilling game. They racked up 222-2 in 25 overs and we finished on 213-9, to secure the draw. Sam Hall made 63 and Nav Malik 43.

In the juniors there were great wins for the U11s and U13s, plus a defeat for the U13 girls.

Tour is looming and we need more people to commit. The schedule is:

Monday July 28 Sth Devon CC
Tuesday July 29 Paignton CC
Wednesday July 30 Ottery St Mary CC
Thursday July 31 Exeter CC

Deposits are now payable – queries and bookings to Mad Dog asap, please.

On the fundraising front, I’m delighted to say we have sailed past the £2k landmark, with will be more than £2.5k including Gift Aid. We are applying for a match-funding grant which could double that. But we need more donors – at any level from a straight match-ball sponsorship of £50 up to a larger donation if you are able. This is to develop the facilities at Chiswick House and at HQ (if we raise enough) so please dig into your pockets and donate here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/chiswick-cricket-club-fundraising#start

Thanks to everyone who represented the club this weekend: well played everyone – time to cool down now!

Bernard
