Apologies for the lateness of this report: I was going to wait till Monday to catch the T20 Finals Day – and then forgot to send out.
Unfortunately the T20 team lost in the morning semifinal to Brentham – but congratulations to David Boothroyd and the players for another successful season, making finals day and punching above our weight in this league.
Saturday was pretty much a complete washout, a real disappointment at this crunch time of the season. 2s-6s all rained off without a ball bowled – but huge credit to our grounds team, who were one of only 4 in Middlesex to get any play yesterday. We had half a 24-over game against SKLPCC. In which we restricted them to 116-8, but the rain returned before we could bat. Victory would have ensured promotion – instead that will have to wait till next week.
Sunday was a completely different kettle of fish weather-wise: clear blue skies for the annual club day. We had a really good turnout of players, with three Chiswick sides and Tabard Pilgrims playing a series of T20s. The winning team was Sam Hall’s XI – and player of the day went to Mike ‘Freddie’ Redfern, for his 35 and direct hit runout in the first game. We were then entertained by the inimitable Steve Brookes, to round off an excellent day. Thanks above all to Cliff Sykes for masterminding proceedings – and to him and Mark Bunkhall for umpiring.
Thanks
Bernard
