Scores and news from the club this week

I’m going to start, unusually, with the 5s, who saw an amazing debut yesterday. Ollie Gilmour, second of the three Gilmour brothers and – full disclosure – your Chairman’s nephew, was called into the 5s an hour before the game. With us defending 170 he proceeded, on his senior league debut, to take 6 wickets, including the last to fall, as we beat Wycombe House by just 2 runs. A debut to stay in the memory.

Meanwhile the 1s lost (David Boothroyd 4 wickets) as did the 2s, despite Zach Fry being in the runs again with 51.

The 3s made it two wins from two, posting 207 against the always tricky Indian Gymkhana, who made 181-9 in reply, Ian Moore taking 4-36.

The 4s lost despite heroics from Jim Yorath (6-15) and Rafi Mohammed (4 wickets) as we turned Trailfinders’ 108-0 in 12 to 143 all out. Unfortunately we fell short in the chase.

Today’s side played through the drizzle at HQ vs Badgers, who batted first and made 176-9 (Sam Sud 4-40.) We just fell short with 154, Steve Brookes making 60 not out to add to his 56* last week for the 4s, and Karthik 50*.

The Ladies continue to train hard and are heading towards their first match: good luck to everyone involved and more players are always welcome.

The juniors had another busy week. The U15s registered their first win with an opposition concession and the U10s squeaked a thriller against South Hampstead. The U13s and U11s lost, as did the U17s, although Joe Gilmour impressed with 50 against a strong Richmond attack.

We have also been working hard on Fridays with the All Stars and Dynamos. Thanks to everyone involved in promoting the game to the next generation. In particular I must mention Sam Gilmour (Gilmour no.3) who has been brilliant in his coaching of the U9s on Sunday mornings – a somewhat thankless task for which I am now thanking him.

Some housekeeping.

A final reminder for the Fantasy Cricket league. Please go here to enter your team, and here to pay your £10 entry fee.

Please pay your subs if you haven’t yet. Please pay here and get it done. We need your subs to keep the club financially above water, so please pay your way. For any members in genuine financial difficulty please get in touch with me directly (and in confidence).

A reminder about training on Tuesday (1s and 2s) and Thursday (club training). And get your availabilities into Pitchero asap, and ahead of Tuesday selection if you want to be considered.

Lastly a message from Jim Yorath:
The Pavilion Bar and Kitchen are looking for a few new members of this team for the summer.
1x Shift Manager: Experience Required - roles will include opening up, managing a small team, serving customers and problem solving.
3x Assistant Bar Person: Serving Customers inside and out, keeping our bar/customer areas clean and tidy.

All these roles will require Friday, Saturday and Sundays shifts.

Please send a text to Jim Yorath on 07958 270 350 if interested

Thanks everyone

Bernard
