An update on this week's matches

Not the most memorable of weekends for the club, as the weather broke on Saturday to go from record high temperatures to miserable, cold, rainy conditions for the ends of the games.

The 1s fell agonisingly short, bowled out for 219 chasing 224, valiant innings from Curran Bains (45) and Jordan Cahir (40) not quite enough. The 2s were second best against Southgate, but held on for the draw 9 down thanks to a brave rearguard led by Anurag Zende (43) and a one-legged Freddie Pointon.

The 3s league game was frustratingly conceded as we lost our home ground at short notice. We put out a friendly side instead who lost to Sheen Park. The 4s posted 189 on a dangerous minefield at West Molesey (Swaps Anaokar 47) and we had them 70-6 just after drinks, when the rain came. As bowlers struggled with the wet ball Twickenham got close, and we just couldn’t close out the win, their last pair at the crease and them 8 runs short. A winning draw for us.

The 5s offered the only W of the day. We bowled out London Tigers for 158 (skipper Dave Phillips 4-30 and Ben Hurtig-Isaac 5-75) and chased them for 8 down, recovering from a horror start of 5-3, Fahd Baig and George Mackaness seeing us over the line. The highlight of the game was the old club captain of a great vintage Mark Bunkhall making his first appearance at the club for many years, umpiring the 5s game. He was amazed to find Mad Dog still bowling, but delighted that the bar served London Pride.

Today’s games were both abandoned with the rain striking in the evening. The MDL side were going well – we made 214-6 dec, 50s for Jett Beecroft and skipper Zach Fry, who is having an amazing season with the bat. We had K&C 162-6 (Sai Bhatia 5 wickets) when the rain came: a winning draw, but should have been a win. The away side were chasing 222 and 96-5 when the rain descended.

Defeats this week for the U10s, U11s and U13s but Friday saw the first win in their first game for the U19s. We made 128 in our 20 overs – 50 for Sai Bhatia, who’s had a good few days – and after they made a strong start Roehampton collapsed to 93-9. Well done the U19s and coach Matt Tomes-Smith.

Have a good week everyone.
