An update on results this week at the club.

We have reached the halfway point in the league season - and it seems to have flown by!

The 1s had another exciting game and were tantalisingly close to a second win on the trot. We made an impressive 262-6 – 50s again for Seb Eyre, Jordan Cahir and also skipper Rav Sehmi. Alexandra Park finished on 250-9 – we were one wicket away, but picked up the winning draw.

The 2s did win. We were chasing 153, after Leith Cowie took 4 wickets, and after an early wobble got them for 6 – stand-in skipper James Marsh leading the charge with 71*. The 3s also won to maintain their push for promotion. It wasn’t entirely straightforward as we chased down 138 with three wickets to spare, but another good win for Sam Freeman’s side.

The 4s also won, chasing their target rather more comfortably. After restricting Perivale to 139 (Charlie Harris 4-27) Karthik Shivaram made 46 and Philip Moss 45 as we cantered home only 2 down.

The 5s were the only losers on Saturday. We recovered well to bowl them out for 201 after an early blitz, with all our wickets going to U15s bowlers: 5 to Ollie Gilmour and 4 to Ben Hurtig-Isaac. We were always in the hunt in our chase but finished on 147, your Chairman making 63.

On Sunday the MDL played well but lost, Johaan Anaokar-Sorensen top-scoring with 42. (And in last week’s MDL game, for which details reached me too late for the email, Johaan scored 40*, Joe Gilmour 46 and Ed Sykes 53.) The home friendly side posted a decent 179 (Steve Brookes 68, Suri 30*) but they chased it down comfortably.

The final week of the boy’s junior season finished with a terrific win for the U11s against Shepherds Bush but defeats for the other sides. Congratulations go to all the young players who have represented the club this season – and our thanks go to all the coaches, managers and helpers who have got the games on and made them run so smoothly. As a club we are very grateful for everyone’s endeavours: thank you.

At this halfway stage in the league season I can update on the Fantasy Cricket League (although this week’s points have not yet been included): Zach Fry is the leader from David Boothroyd. Zach is also the club’s leading run-scorer, with Ben Hurtig-Isaac the leading wicket-taker and Steve Brookes the leading keeper.

Please keep getting your availability in ahead of selection on Tuesday. Can I also please ask you to pay your match fees promptly and in full. It is a pain for Mike Parkyn and me to be chasing these, and not fair if people don’t pay. There are currently 45 unpaid match fees (not including the last weekend). Please look out for prompts coming in this week and pay when you get them. Thanks to the great majority of people who pay straight away.

Lastly can I please ask you to save the date of Friday 9 September for our end of season Presentation Night, when the whole club comes together to celebrate the performances from the year. It would be great to have a good turnout – so get it in the diary now!

Thanks and have a good week.
Bernard
